DANISH PUFF

2 tablespoons margarine or butter, softened
2 cups Bisquick baking mix, divided use
2 tablespoons water
3/4 cup water
1/4 cup margarine or butter
1 teaspoon almond extract
1 cup Bisquick baking mix
3 eggs
Vanilla Glaze (recipe follows)
1/4 cup sliced almonds (for garnish)

Heat oven to 400 degrees F.

Cut 2 tablespoons margarine into 1 cup baking mix. Sprinkle 2 tablespoons water over mixture; mix until pastry cleans side of bowl.

Divide pastry in half. Pat each half into rectangle, 10x3-inches, on ungreased cookie sheet. (Rectangles should be at least 3-inches apart.) Set aside.

Heat 3/4 cup water and 1/4 cup margarine to rolling boil in 3-quart saucepan. Add almond extract and the remaining 1 cup baking mix all at once. Stir vigorously over low heat about 1 1/2 minutes or until mixture forms a ball. Remove from heat. Beat in eggs, one at a time; continue beating until smooth. Spread half of the dough over each pastry rectangle.

Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until topping is crisp and dark golden brown; cool slightly.

Spread with Glaze and sprinkle with almonds.

VANILLA GLAZE

TO MAKE 1/2 RECIPE:
Decrease the 3/4 cup water to 1/3 cup and eggs to 2. Divide remaining ingredient amounts in half. Pat pastry into 1 strip, 10x3-inches. Substitute 2-quart saucepan for 3-quart saucepan.

Makes 12 servings (full recipe)
